The STAY SAFE project is an innovative peer speaking project working in Inverness and the surrounding areas. The project is managed by HCCF, working in partnership with Highland Senior Citizens Network, Age Scotland, Northern Constabulary, Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service, Trading Standards, Highland Council, Crimestoppers and the NHS. Comic Relief is funding the project as a pilot through to late 2013.
The project recruits volunteers aged 50+ who will go out to older people’s groups to provide information and advice on key topics of safety, security and support services that promote the well being and independence of older people. The project grew out of research which identified the expressed needs of older people in respect of wanting to feel informed, confident, safe and supported in their local communities.
Three separate talks already being delivered to groups cover aspects of ‘Doorstep Safety’ in relation to bogus tradesmen, secondly a valued presentation on any ‘Scams’ which may be around currently, as well as the better known ones and finally a talk on ‘Stay Safe Stay Steady’ which covers preventable falls as people age.
Please get involved. Become a volunteer or request a talk for your group.
